From Monday June 1st to Friday June 5th, the Lebanese city of Tyre will be at honor in Washington D.C., in the United States. The International association for the safeguard of Tyre, headed by Dr Maha El-Khalil Chalabi, and the American committee for Tyre, organize on June 3rd, at the «Library of Congress» in Washington, the day for Tyre, as part of a symposium. Dr James H. Billington, president of the Congress library, and the congressman and honorary president Charles Boustany will pronounce welcome speeches at the opening ceremony of the event that will assemble also the president of the American committee of Tyre, the ambassador David Killion, the president of the International association for Tyre the French minister Hervé de Charette, and Dr Maha El-Khalil Chalabi. Tyre cradle of civilisations, trade and Phoenician art, and Tyre in the Bible, will be subject for debate around tables animated by specialized experts in the Canaanite, Phoenician and Punic eras, coming from Lebanon, France, Greece, United States, Tunisia and Belgium. They will be followed by a private visit to the library of congress and an exhibition of archives dedicated to Tyre, punctuated by a lunch and a dinner. Let’s note that the American committee for Tyre rally fifty public and private personalities, namely honorary presidents, the ambassador Esther Coopersmith and Charles Boustany, the founder and secretary general Dr Maha El-Khalil Chalabi, HE David Killion… Apart from the symposium, a special program will be dedicated to the «friends of Tyre». It includes visits to Washington, to the white house, to the Supreme Court, to the Department of State, as well as to different museums, artistic and cultural sites of the state.
